Garments to each other
Quran says in Surah Baqra "your spouses are like your garments."
Garments are closest to the body. So also the married couples should be closest to each other. As per the benefits of the garment, quran describes them as: -
- Garments protect as from hot and cold climate changes. The married couples shall protect each other from all hurtful situations.
- Garments cover up the inner parts of the body. The married coupled should hide the negative qualities of each other. They shall not expose any bad qualities in public. They shall guard the secrets of each other.
- Garments give dignity to the body. So also the couple maintain the dignity of each other.
Husband's dignity is wife's dignity. Wife's dignity is husbands dignity. Married couples are respected in society. Unmarried people are suspected in society. They question why did he not marry so long. Did he not get suitable match so long. Or has he got any physical inner defect like impotency so on. Why did the girl not marry till now. Was she not selected by any boy. Many overaged unmarried women do not like to attend functions because people ask them uncomfortable questions. Thus marriage gives couples dignity.
There is a hadees: 'Marriage gives full complete Imaan to a Muslim.' Because, a person has got half Imaan before marriage. After marriage both husband and wife struggle to support and maintain the family even at the cost of their own comforts. The real life struggle starts after marriage. They both are tested for their efforts in looking after the family. Allah gives them reward for their efforts. Before marriage they were living their own lives. After marriage they get the responsibility of wife and family maintenance. Human beings have two connections to hold. One is the connection of creator Allah. The second connection is his family, his parents, his dependents, so on. He is supposed to hold both the connections fast. Man cannot ignore either of the connections. Thus, his Iman will complete when he holds both connections, Allah and the family. There is a Hadees = "The best of the Muslim is the one who is good to his family."
